Remy Martin Tercet is a Fine Champagne cognac that broke from the house's traditional path when it joined the permanent range, the maison's first new core expression in nearly a decade. The name refers to a tercet, a trio of rhyming lines in poetry, and reflects the three craftsmen whose collaboration shaped the blend: Cellar Master Baptiste Loiseau, Master Distiller Jean Marie Bernard and Wine Master Francis Nadeau. Loiseau first encountered the unusually aromatic, fruit forward eaux de vie at the heart of Tercet during his early training at Remy Martin, brandies laid down by his predecessors, and built the blend around them with the help of his two longtime collaborators. Like most of the Remy Martin portfolio, Tercet carries the Fine Champagne designation, meaning it is blended only from Grande Champagne and Petite Champagne eaux de vie, with at least half drawn from Grande Champagne, the most prized growing area in Cognac. The distillation is done on the lees in small copper pot stills for added texture and complexity, and the spirit is aged and blended in French oak. What truly sets Tercet apart is its strength: it is bottled at 42 percent alcohol by volume, the highest proof of any Remy Martin blend, a deliberate choice to accentuate its fresh, fruit driven character. It pours a full bodied bronze and delivers an explosion of fresh and dried tropical fruit, lychee, pineapple and apricot, layered with cinnamon, ginger and a hint of licorice, finishing round, smooth and surprisingly long. It has earned competition recognition including gold at the Cognac Masters. Enjoy it neat, over ice in a white Burgundy glass, or paired with fresh pineapple or fruit sorbet.
